Collaboration Statement:
Long admirers of each other’s work, Lisa Grossman and Justin Marable began collaborating on a painterly printmaking project in late 2008. Lisa, a painter and printmaker from Lawrence, and Justin, a silkscreen artist from Topeka, thought it would be interesting to combine each other’s ideas and techniques in a series of experimental painterly prints. Many of these unique works involve layering Lisa’s watercolors and acrylic painting with Justin’s inventive silkscreen processes. The artists also made small editions of six larger images, though each print involves hand painting that produced expressive variations within each edition. Both artists contributed photographic imagery to the work.
Strecker-Nelson Gallery in Manhattan, Kansas, debuted this work in a show that also included each artist’s personal work, from January 15 to February 27, 2010.
